Standard League – first Body Checking Clinic (Jan 8, 2013)

On Jan-8, 2013, HKAHC held the first Body Checking Clinic for the Standard League players to learn and get ready for the full contact game format. A total of 48 players participated.

The clinic was divided into 5 parts and introduced full contact techniques to the players practically.

The Warm-up session included two laps, stationary arm rotation, forwards, backwards, joint movement side to side, partners shoulder resistance, partners (no sticks) holding on to arms and bump and arm crawl.

It followed up with tripod pushes, thrust of war and leg drive concentrating on balance and power training.

Players also experienced bumping, checking, and pinning. Players learned the skills of pinning player on boards by using hip pocket angle checking, taking a check with board protection, distributing weight close to boards, as well as offensive check while in control of puck along boards

After several small groups practice, there was a scrimmage held before the end of clinic.

We hope this clinic can introduce our players to body checking skills and getting ready for full contact games, and hence they can gain more experience through playing international game format.
